At the Law Office of Walsh, Becker & Rice, with offices in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s County, Maryland, we help clients reach a property settlement with their spouse without court intervention. If that is not possible, we are skilled at identifying marital property, placing a value on it, and presenting the court with a distribution plan that is equitable.
Identifying Marital Property
Marital property is all property of any kind, from cars to houses, that the couple accumulates together during the course of their marriage. It does not include separate property owned by one party prior to the marriage. It also does not include property one party gained as an inheritance, or what was awarded to a party in a personal injury case.
Maryland divides marital property according to the principle of equitable distribution. This does not mean an equal division. The court considers many factors in determining what is equitable.
The division of your marital property will affect your entire future. At Walsh, Becker & Rice, we help you avoid a financial disaster that could occur if the division of property is handled improperly. Contact us at one of our offices. We serve all those in Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, Charles, Montgomery, and Baltimore Counties.
